It may sound like an urban legend, but according to local lore, there is a trove of buried treasure in Paraguay. In recent years, the land-locked South American country has become a big draw for fortune hunters set on uncovering hidden gems.

Now, the treasure-hunting craze that has captivated the people of Paraguay is becoming a national obsession. But the pursuit to strike it rich is posing problems to the country’s cultural heritage.
