Rio de Janeiro is the city that produces the most amount of garbage in Brazil, nearly two kilos per person, per day, according to Brazil’s Association of Public Sanitation.

Often times, public services are too overburdened to handle all the waste.

But in one of the city’s slums, residents became so distraught by the pile of mounting garbage, they did something to stop it.
