Americas Now

On all continents the demand for exclusive, gourmet roasted, fine coffee is exploding. Specialty coffee, as it’s called, is the fastest growing segment of the coffee industry. But it’s much more than a marketing ploy.

Specialty coffee is curated in the same manner as top-quality fine wines or liquors. In the U.S. alone it’s increased its market share from one percent to 20 percent in the last 25 years. Mexico has now joined the ranks of the world’s best producers of specialty coffee. Correspondent Franc Contreras traces its path from the mountains of Chiapas, to coffee cups in Mexico City and beyond.

Watch Franc’s story for “Americas Now” and follow the rich aroma of Mexico’s specialty coffee route.
