Members of Quito’s K-9 force honored in dog retirement ceremony

Latin American law enforcement officials have come to depend more and more on police dogs in their work. In Ecuador, these canine cops assist in everything from drug seizures to search and rescue efforts, like the ones following the country’s 7.8 magnitude earthquake in 2016.

But once the four-legged officers turn eight years old, it’s time to hang up their collars.
