China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Sunday, expressing firm opposition to and strong condemnation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) for carrying out a nuclear test.

The opposition and condemnation came following the DPRK official media announcement on Sunday that the DPRK detonated an H-bomb, a hydrogen bomb that can be carried by an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). This was the sixth nuclear test by the DPRK.

China’s firm stance and the common goal of the international community is to achieve denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula, protect the nuclear non-proliferation mechanism and maintain peace and stability in northeast Asia, the statement said.

China strongly demands the DPRK to seriously consider the firm will of the international community to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and to comply with the UN Security Council resolutions, the statement said.

China demands the DPRK cease its wrong course of actions that worsens the tensions on the Korean Peninsula and runs against its own interests and return to dialogue in resolving the disputed issues, the statement said.
