As world leaders gather in New York for the United Nations General Assembly, The Heat explores the organization’s peacekeeping operations.

United Nations peacekeepers are involved in fifteen missions around the world, mostly in Africa.

China is a big contributor to U.N. peacekeeping missions with more than 2500 blue helmets working in ten countries.

To discuss this:

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will speak before the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday. On his way to New York, Yi helped open the new Chinese Embassy in Panama City. China and Panama established diplomatic ties in June and together the two countries have signed trade and investment agreements worth nearly 38 million U.S. dollars.

Chinese companies are already involved in dozens of infrastructure projects and have expressed interest in developing the land around the Panama Canal.
