The Heat: First Day of UN General Assembly Speeches

The Heat

UN General Assembly 2017

He’s known for his blustery rhetoric, so when Donald Trump took the podium at the opening session of this year’s United Nations General Assembly, many were expecting more of the same.

And that’s just what they got. Among his targets — the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Iran for their nuclear programs and the previous U.S. administration for negotiating what he called an embarrassing agreement with Iran.

CGTN’s Nathan King reports from the United Nations.

To discuss the UN General Assembly first day of speeches:

  • Abdelhamid Siyam, a former UN spokesman and currently a Professor of Middle Eastern Studies at Rutgers University.
  • Qinduo Xu, a Political Analyst with China Radio International.
  • Trita Parsi, founder and president of the National Iranian American Council.
  • Hugh Dugan, an international affairs scholar, who served in the U.S Diplomatic Corps for more than 30 years advising 11 U.N. ambassadors.
