Philippine China Ties

The meeting between Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and Chinese President Xi Jinping last October marked a new beginning for the neighboring countries.


Since the talks, the two countries have signed 22-cooperative agreements and China is now the Philippines biggest trading partner.

CGTN’s Anand Naidoo had the chance to sit-down with Alan Peter Cayetano, The Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the latest developments and the ever changing relationship between the two countries.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang will travel to the Philippines next month for an official visit and to attend the ASEAN Summit.  Relations between China and the Philippines have improved greatly over the last year, as leaders focused on investment and trade. The Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs spoke candidly about sovereignty in the South China Sea and security challenges.
