Lebanon leaders demand return of PM Saad Hariri from Saudi Arabia

Lebanese leaders are calling for Prime Minister Saad Hariri to return from Saudi Arabia and answer questions about his sudden resignation.

CGTN’s Youmna Naufal reports from Beirut.

Lebanese leaders are demanding the return of their Prime Minister, Saad Hariri, and Hezbollah is now claiming that he’s been detained in Saudi Arabia against his will.

At the same time, Riyadh and some of its Gulf State allies are calling for their citizens to leave Lebanon.

In a surprise move last Saturday, Hariri announced his resignation while on a trip in Saudi Arabia. In his speech, which aired on Saudi television, Hariri said he feared for his life, describing the political atmosphere as similar to what it was in 2005, when his father, then-Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, was assassinated in a truck bomb attack in Beirut.
