The Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea and the Republic of Korea have reopened their line of communication for the first time since 2016.

Not in high tech, but instead through telephones and fax machines.

In the border village of Panmunjom, 100 yards apart, the two have separate posts. The ROK’s post, called the “House of Freedom,” has one green phone for receiving calls, and a red phone for making calls to the DPRK.

Prior to reopening the line of communication, the two sides would use megaphones to communicate across the border on urgent matters.
