Recipe for Life: Red Wine Hot Chocolate

Recipe for Life

Social entrepreneur Ting Shih is helping the world connect with her medical app, Clickmedix. When she needs to unplug, she turns to one of her favorite comfort foods: Red Wine Hot Chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups (240 mL) almond milk (can use any milk)
  • 1/2 cup (120 mL) of wine
  • 1/2 tbsp (7.5 mL) honey
  • 2 tbsp (30mL) creamer (or more, to taste)
  • About 6 squares of chocolate (76g)
  • Whipped cream (light), 2 tbsp  (30mL)
  • Marshmallow (optional)

Equipment Needed:

  • Sauce pan or pot to heat up milk
  • Measuring spoon
  • Measuring cup
  • Bottle opener
  • Marshmallow sticks
  • Glasses

Directions:

Heat up the almond milk in a saucepan. Once heated, add the honey, creamer and about 6 squares of chocolate.

Stir until chocolate has fully dissolved. Take the pot off the stove and mix in the wine. Pour into serving glasses.

Top with whipped cream, garnish with toasted marshmallow (optional) and chocolate pieces, as desired.

Sip the drink, dip the marshmallow, and enjoy however you’d like! Got leftovers? Put it in the freezer and turn it into a frozen dessert for later!

Makes two 10 oz servings.

Need a lighter option? Use 1 square of chocolate; skip the whipped cream and marshmallow; use your favorite low-calorie sweetener instead of honey.
