The Sol Project raises awareness of Latinos on stage in NYC

Americas Now

A new endeavor to bring Latino artists and writers more visibility is happening in New York. It’s called The Sol Project. And it is bringing new energy and enthusiasm to Latino stage actors and playwrights – off Broadway.

Despite decades of trying, Latinos have made only modest gains in the world of professional acting. The most progress has been on TV shows and in movies. But the Latino presence on stage lags behind.

The Sol Project is helping to change that reality. The founders believe in order to increase the Latino presence on the U.S. stage you must begin on a local level. In addition to forming partnerships with off-Broadway theaters, the initiative is working on collaborations with regional theaters in other cities as well.
