Chinese delegation to PyeongChang Olympics arrives at athletes' village

The Winter Olympics in PyeongChang is preparing to kick off in just a few days.

Among the thousands of athletes attending is the delegation from China.

CGTN’s Frances Kuo has more on their expectations for the Games.

More than 80 strong and proud, China’s athletic delegation to the Winter Games made their entrance at the Athletes’ village.

They include speed skater Zhou Yang who will be China’s flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony.

“It’s a top honor for me,” Yang said. “Some of my trainers told me about the news the last few days. But it was not decided. Now it’s a sure thing and I feel so happy.”

The group attended a ceremony in which the Olympic flag and the national flag of China were raised.

For 2010 Olympic pairs figure skating champion and now coach, Zhao Hongbo, the thrill never gets old.

“For both the figure skating team and myself, this is a great chance and a pre-2022 (Beijing Winter Olympics) stop. When our national flag was raised, all of us got really excited,” said Zhao.

As PyeongChang welcomed the Chinese athletes, the China House in South Korea is opening its doors.

The reception center is a place to present Chinese sports culture to foreign media and other international delegates.

It also features exhibits on preparations for the 2022 Olympics, hosted by Beijing.

Friday is the official kick-off of the PyeongChang Olympics, featuring 15 winter sports over two weeks of competition.

And, Chinese athletes say they’ll give it their all.

“I will go all out for the competition, so that I can get good scores and make the five-star red flag rise once again at the competition venue,” said Wu Dajing, short-track speed skater.
