Urban Voices: A Cuban musician loving life … in Paris

Americas Now

When you think of the music of Cuba you are more likely to hear the sounds of salsa than the chords of a classical composition. But a musician from Havana is altering that perception. His name is Ronald Martin Alonso.

He plays the “viol” – a stringed-instrument that first appeared in Europe during the Renaissance.

Ronald re-located to Paris and has just made a solo album. It features pieces from one of France’s most famous viol players back in the early 18th century.

Ronald Martin Alonso has toured extensively through Europe performing his music. At the moment, he has returned to Latin America where he is touring in Argentina and Brazil.
