A Colombian farmer moves from “coca” to “cocoa” crops

Americas Now

Coca – the plant used to produce cocaine – is a crop that’s seen steady growth in Colombia since 2013. The government has tried many things to counter – recent highs in the production and trade of cocaine including spraying the plants from above.

Now, they’re trying a new approach: persuading farmers to replace the plant with a sweeter alternative.

Our Game Changer is a former coca farmer who is doing just that. And he’s convincing others that coca crops are not worth the cash or the danger.
