Brazil’s problem with Cesarean section births

No country in the world has a higher rate of Cesarean or C-section birth deliveries than Brazil.

More than half of all births are a result of surgery. That’s far higher than the World Health Organization recommends. It says 10-15% is a safe level.

Correspondent Stephen Gibbs looks at the cultural factors behind Brazil’s C-section epidemic and what the government is doing to tackle the issue.

Researchers at the University of Vienna say the number of women with pelvises too small for a natural birth has increased over the last 60 years.
