You might wonder how exactly China’s multi-party cooperation works. CGTN reporter Zou Yun explains.

We all know China’s political system is not a Western-style multi-party system, but it does involve a number of political parties for consultations into its policy-making under the leadership of the Communist Party of China.

The CPPCC, serves as a KEY vehicle to facilitate this mechanism.

All together, there are eight major non-Communist political parties, let’s take a closer look at one of them. The Jiusan Society is composed mainly of senior and mid-level intellectuals from sectors such as science, technology, higher education, culture and medicine.

Formed in 1944, the society aims to carry on the traditions of science and democracy. It has traditionally served as a sort of “think-tank” for the government, providing important references for science-related policies, as well as advising on major issues, such as how to deepen economic reform and drive innovation.

Just like the Jiusan Society, the other seven non-Communist parties are all committed partners of the CPC. They play an important role in helping draw up state policies and enact laws and regulations.

And they’re all playing their part in the move towards advancement and greater prosperity in China.
