Rio hosts para-cycling track world championships

Latin America

It’s considered one of the fastest cycling tracks in the world – Rio’s Olympic velodrome. Since the 2016 Rio games, the 250-meter venue hasn’t hosted a premier cycling event until the Para-Cycling Track World Championships.

CGTN’s Lucrecia Franco reports.

Over 170 athletes from 30 countries participated in a competition, held in South America for the first time.

Among the highlights was China’s Jieli Li. She broke the world record in the women C1 500 meter trial, clocking 43.430 seconds. That shaved nine-thousandths of a second from her previous world record. C1 athletes have the most serious impairments.
