Gender-based violence is a global epidemic, says World Bank

An estimated 35 percent of women globally have been sexually or physically abused by someone who is not their partner–that number jumps up to 70 percent as it pertains to their intimate partners.

The World Bank is working to support research and innovation worldwide to stem the epidemic of gender-based violence.

“Violence experienced by women and girls is an obstacle to development gains, as it impedes their full participation in society, limits access to education and economic participation, and hinders efforts to achieve gender equality.” The World Bank said.
