April 19th marked a turning point in Cuba as 87-year-old Raul Castro retired as president. It’s the first time in almost six decades that there is no Castro at the helm of power.

When Raul Castro assumed the presidency from his ailing brother, longtime leader Fidel Castro, few envisioned what he’d accomplish. But it proved a smooth transition with Raul pushing through a series of economic, social and foreign policy reforms.
