The U.S. has pulled out of the Iran nuclear deal and started reimposing sanctions but the U.S. President said Wednesday Iran won’t be allowed to start enriching uranium again without consequences.

Addressing a Cabinet meeting at the White House Trump said if Tehran resumed its nuclear program.

“They’re gonna find out. I don’t think they should do that. I would advise Iran not to start their nuclear program. I would advise them very strongly. If they do there will be very severe consequence, ok? ”

And the U.S. isn’t just warning Iran but it’s European allies too – this tweet from the new U.S. Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell caused consternation in Berlin.

“As @realDonaldTrump said, US sanctions will target critical sectors of Iran’s economy. German companies doing business in Iran should wind down operations immediately.”

European nations who want to stay in the Iran deal feel Washington could make it impossible for them – feelings are running high Frustration too in Tehran. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei is skeptical the deal can be saved-addressing European powers he said “ If you can get a guarantee that we can put confidence in, then you can continue. If you don’t succeed in obtaining a definitive guarantee — and I really doubt that you can — at that moment, we cannot continue like this.”

For allies of the U.S. they are now in an impossible situation – keep to a deal they committed to and Iran is adhering to -or side with its traditional ally which has ignored their advice at every turn.
