A museum in Guatemala that teaches kids the importance of birds

Americas Now

Richard Rivera is a man who decided later in life to dedicate himself to a unique pursuit. He preserves knowledge about the hundreds of species of birds that inhabit Lake Atitlan in Guatemala.

In doing so, Richard is helping children in his community come in contact with nature and providing them with skills to ensure the environment’s future.

Lake Atitlan has become such a popular destination for bird watchers, the region has seen an increase in local residents becoming bird guides. Tour leaders are required to complete a training course that includes learning to name bird species in Spanish, Latin and English.
