The "Protector of Macaws" has spent 40 years freeing macaws from captivity in Caracas

Vittorio Poggi is known in Caracas as the “Protector of Macaws.”  40 years ago, a macaw flew in Poggi’s window – it was love at first sight.

Since then he’s made it his mission to free all the macaws in captivity.

And Caracas residents appreciate his work. From sunrise until sunset they enjoy their feathered friends.

Macaws are part of the parrot family – usually found in the rain forests of Central and South America.

But they have found a new home in Caracas’ urban jungle.

Residents hope to maintain this unique relationship with their feathered friends.

Keeping the Venezuelan capital, the city of Macaws.
