The Washington Capitals Hockey Team is celebrating a Stanley Cup win – and a first pro sports championship for Washington DC in 26 years.

CGTN’s Hendrik Sybrandy reports.

Thousands of sports fans lined the streets to welcome the team home and into sports history.

They thought this day would never happen.

In Washington D.C. it was a beautiful sunny Tuesday for the Washington Capitals Stanley Cup parade.

No athletic team has won a championship since the Washington Redskins back in 1992 but the Capitals pulled it off miraculously last Thursday when they beat Las Vegas.

As one politician said today, nothing brings a city closer together than a champion, and that’s what the Washington Capitals are, and it’s a festive atmosphere today indeed. Let’s go Caps!
