Donald Trump emerged from a meeting with lawmakers on Tuesday signaling his support for competing immigration bills, but only one would take steps to address the separation of families attempting to enter the U.S.

The controversial policy of separating children from their parents when they cross the Mexican without documentation has drawn increasing criticism from Democrats, Republicans and world leaders.
