US companies launch campaign against new Trump tariffs

Canada and the EU have already responded with retaliatory tariffs and now major American corporations are launching a campaign against the White House over Trump’s new tariffs.

Major American corporations are taking on the White House over the raft of tariffs being launched by and against the United States.

This lobbying effort comes as President Donald Trump is reportedly considering leaving the World Trade Organization. CGTN’s Jessica Stone reports.

The United States Chamber of Commerce has donated more than $100,000 to Republican congressional candidates in the past six months alone.

However, the Chamber has opposed President Trump’s position on trade and immigration and is now also launching a campaign against the President’s tariffs.

Canada and the EU have already responded with retaliatory tariffs, and Washington and Beijing are expected to slap more tariffs against each other this week.

The Chamber calculates that the proposed and current tariffs threaten as many as 2.6 million jobs in the United States.
