When the sun goes down in Austin, Texas, the bats come out

Digital Originals

Every year from March to October, 1.5 million bats fly the skies of Austin, Texas.

They sleep during the day under the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge and come out at night with a spectacular show. The bridge’s concrete openings provide the perfect roosting space for bats to have babies and their evening flights have been attracting locals and visitors alike since the 1980s.
