Kenya, Tanzania observe 20 years since US embassy bombings

Kenyans, Tanzanians, and Americans gathered to mark 20 years since Al-Qaeda’s attacks on U.S. embassies in East Africa.

On August 7, 1998, at around 10:35 a.m., a truck loaded with explosives detonated outside the U.S. embassy in Nairobi, Kenya.

Just minutes later another bomb exploded at the U.S. embassy in Dar es Salam, Tanzania,

The devastating attacks left more than 200 people dead and injured more than 5,000.

The victims were mostly Africans and 12 Americans.
