An interview with China’s new ambassador to Chile – Xu Bu

Chile established diplomatic ties with China back in 1970. Today, China is their largest trading partner.

Even after last year’s elections, when power shifted to the conservative right, political and economic consensus remains on a number of state policies. One alliance holding strong is the country’s relationship with China.

A new Chinese ambassador has been sent to Chile. His name is Xu Bu and he sat down to speak with Correspondent Joel Richards in Santiago.

The tension over tariffs continues to be a concern for many countries with strong commercial ties with China like Chile. They hope to have a say in multilateral meetings like the G20 Summit in Argentina to avoid affecting their economy. Chile is one of Latin America’s most stable economies.
