Teaching ecological awareness to students in Mexico

Americas Now

Mexico has one of the world’s highest rates of consumption, but one of the lowest rates for recycling. Mexico City is struggling to keep up with the amount of rubbish and pollution generated by its 20-million-plus inhabitants.

One man realized the key to a better future lies in educating future generations and instilling a culture of environmental awareness.

Meet our Game Changer, Julio Alvarez.

He started a program that teaches recycling, composting and gives instruction for saving water, energy and trees. He is also expanding the program, called Escuela Promesa, into schools in six different states around Mexico.
