Pensioners in Russia vented their anger and frustration on Sunday, over planned changes for retirees. Thousands demonstrated in the streets and hundreds were arrested, the same day local elections were held in multiple parts of the country.

The protests are the first major test for the government since it proposed raising the retirement age. Opinion polls suggest 90 percent opposition to the plan.
