Americas Now

Migration from Venezuela has been going on for decades. According to the United Nations, 2.3 million Venezuelans have left the country since 2014. Thousands of upper-class Venezuelans left in 1999 after the election of Hugo Chavez.

In the past, Venezuelans have resisted relocating but the situation has become so dire it has triggered a growing refugee crisis.

“Americas Now” anchor Elaine Reyes spoke to Correspondent Stephen Gibbs in Caracas about the causes for the escalating exodus and the region’s response.
