Protectionism will only hurt one’s self and unilateral moves will bring damage to all, said Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday.

Wang made the remark in a speech at the General Debate of the 73rd Session of the General Assembly of the United Nation.

No one should be allowed to put its own interest above others, said Wang.

“We should adapt ourselves to the trend of economic globalization,” Wang Yi said, “China stands for a proper settlement based on rules… China will not be blackmailed.”

Talking about multilateralism, Wang has called the members to safeguard the rules and orders, uphold fairness and justice.

On the Korean Peninsula issue, he said China supports all improvement of relations between the DPRK and the ROK, as well as efforts to facilitate dialogue between the DPRK and the US, and will continue to contribute to development in the Korean Peninsula situation.

China will continue to take its international responsibilities to solve the issue, said Wang.

The 73rd regular session of the UN General Assembly opened at the UN headquarters in New York on September 18, and the general debate opened on September 25.
