A Guatemalan man is helping farmers find new uses for coffee.

The country of Guatemala has 19 different micro-climates. Those diverse climates make it a paradise for coffee growers.

But climate issues are being blamed for a “leaf rust” epidemic that destroyed more than 20-percent of the nation’s coffee crop. It also forced many coffee farmers to find other lines of work or leave the business altogether.

Some 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed around the world every day. Evidence compiled by the Climate Institute shows rising temperatures and changing rainfall patterns impact coffee crops from Africa to Central America.
