Cuba’s historic Malecon is “under the weather”

No structure close to the ocean is immune to the effects of rising sea levels. For the island of Cuba erosion is jeopardizing their coasts and its most iconic attraction…the Havana boardwalk, El Malecon.

The government blames climate change and is developing a plan of action. They are also seeking financial help and materials from other countries.

Correspondent Nitza Soledad Perez tells us more from Havana.

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said climate-related disasters totaled 320 billion dollars in 2017. He attributes the devastation to climate change which he calls “one of the defining issues of our time.”
