A social leader in one of Colombia’s national parks is using ecotourism to benefit her community.

Colombia’s Choco region is the second most humid place in the world. Precipitation is constant in the tropical rainforest making it difficult to encourage tourism.

But one woman believed the beautiful landscapes and rich biodiversity needed to be shared with the world. She also saw the potential to help improve the lives of others in her community.

The migration of humpback whales is one reason for tourists to visit the region. The best months to go whale watching in Choco are from July to October. The humpback whales travel more than 8500 kilometers from Antarctica to breed in the waters of Colombia.
