Rap, hip-hop and independent filmmakers aren’t a common sight at the United Nations, but many artists were on site for the International Day of Tolerance on Nov. 16, 2018 to send a message about the power of diversity over hate.

Maha’s music video uses Arabic hip-hop to showcase Sudan and its culture to connect people and fight xenophobia.

She is one of YouTube’s Creators of Change, that spotlights inspirational filmmakers and artists using YouTube to bridge divides and tackle tough issues.

She was at the United Nations to raise awareness on combating prejudice, racism, and extremism.

And she was joined by other popular rappers.

L-Fresh, a Sikh-Australian hip hop artist, performed his song about bringing people from different cultures together.

MaxiNoise’s music video “It begins within you” is about a boy who creates a drawing that inspires his town to treat each other better, including the homeless, the disabled, and foreigners.

Two Canadians created the ASAPScience YouTube channel that made an educational short film showing the impact that racism has on its victims.

Mostly Sane uses Hindi hop-hop to take down homophobes, sexists, and internet trolls, and advocate love over hate.
