A fishing village in Mexico that almost vanished from overfishing has become an ecotourism hotspot after the area was declared a National Park.

Cabo Pulmo is a small fishing village in Mexico that almost disappeared.  The cause of its demise was actually “too much” fishing. Local fishermen could no longer make a living at it.

So the community placed a ban on fishing altogether. And that decision transformed it into what it is today – a magnet for ecotourism.

Cabo Pulmo was declared a National Marine Park by the Mexican government in 1995. It contains the largest living coral reef in North America.
