For the first time in nearly a decade, the U.S. has unveiled a new missile-defense strategy.

President Donald Trump announced the new plans at the Pentagon.

When it comes to missile defense the U.S. is going back to the future.

In 1983, then President Ronald Reagan unveiled the Strategic Defense Initiative popularly known as ‘Star Wars.’ A space-based system that would track and coordinate the interception of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

“Space is a new warfighting domain with the space force leading the way,” President Trump said.

But it won’t be just space-from ballistic missile interceptors in Alaska and California, to THAAD type and ship-based systems deployed in Asia and elsewhere. The new U.S. strategy wants to protect not just every American city but U.S. forces deployed around the world

“Our goal is simple, to ensure that we can detect and destroy any missile launched against the United States anywhere, anytime anyplace,” said Donald Trump the United States President.

Washington now sees as the proliferation threat as global. From Iran and the DPRK but also advanced technologies deployed by Russia and China, labeled as potential adversaries.
