A mother is apprehended at the U.S. border and her infant daughter is seized from her. A U.S. judge grants temporary custody of the child to foster parents while the mother is deported back to El Salvador.

It’s the heartrending story of Alexa Ramos which made headlines around the world. After the infant was taken from her mother’s arms by U.S. Border Patrol agents when the two crossed illegally into the United States, she was sent to live with a foster family in the U.S. state of Michigan.

The story symbolizes the pain and anguish hundreds of children like her are facing in the United States. They’re separated from parents who in some cases they may never see again.

For the first time Alexa’s mother Araceli Ramos tells her story to Correspondent Mike Kirsch in El Salvador.
