CGTN America wins 27 awards from the White House News Photographers Association

CGTN America photojournalists, editors and digital producers were recognized for outstanding work in 10 photography categories, seven editing categories in The White House News Photographers Association 2019 "Eyes of History" contest.

"We aim to produce the highest-quality video journalism for audiences around the world," said Ma Jing, CGTN America's Director General. "These results demonstrate that commitment. We couldn't be prouder of our videographers, video editors and digital producers."

CGTN America, the U.S. production arm of China Global Television Network, won 27 awards.  The next closest network won 18. CGTN America also led all U.S. and UK networks with 10 first place finishes—seven in photography and three in editing.

CGTN Chief Photographer, Andrew Smith was awarded top honor as Video Editor of the Year.  In the photography categories he was recognized with a first place in the News Special Reports/Series, Sports and Network categories. 

Andrew placed third in the White House/Presidential category.  He won an Award of Excellence in the Lighting category.  In the Editing categories, he won first in Sports, third in Day Feature and News Feature and White House/Presidential. 

"We voted unanimously for Andrew Smith," said Judge Katie Barry. "From the ear to the eye, all senses were flawlessly covered. As a viewer, you felt like you were in the Mississippi grocery store gabbing with the Chinese man with a southern accent or in the white water-rafting boat in Wyoming."
