No. 1 Document: Beijing to deepen rural reforms in fight against poverty

China has released a key document focusing on rural areas in its ongoing effort to alleviate poverty. It sets eight benchmarks, ranging from deepening rural reforms to ensuring food production.

CGTN’s Zou Yun has details.

It’s the key period of time to address the issue of agriculture as the country moving to build a moderately prosperous society. The goal of government and objectives have become more specific.

“This year the focus is more focused on poverty alleviation,” Li Yong, senior fellow at the China Association of International Trade, explained. “This also includes efforts to inject commercial capital.”

China is pushing for reform and opening up, the key to rural revitalization.

“A lot of targets need to be met in 2020, but challenges remain in agriculture and in further vitalizing rural areas, Han Jun, deputy director of the Central Leading Group Office for Rural Work. “The development of these areas has a lot to catch up.”
