An interactive exhibition in Washington D.C. takes your heartbeat and turns it into strobing light bulbs or ripples over water.

The exhibit is aptly named “Pulse”. Visitors place their hands on sensors, and the machines turn their pulse into art.

“It’s truly a great feeling to modify the architecture yourself, to modify the space, to transform – for everyone – the experience of the gallery,” Stephane Aquin, Chief Curator, Hirshhorn Museum said.

Visitors say it’s different from looking at paintings on a wall.

But some also found it unsettling, to see their personal identity transformed into public art.
