Vietnam, once one of the world’s poorest countries, is now an economic success story. 

It will be the focus of international attention next week when U.S. President Donald Trump and the leader of the DPRK, Kim Jong Un, meet for talks in Hanoi. But, beyond the important summit discussions, Vietnam may also draw attention for its own story.

Forty years ago it was a poverty-stricken nation recovering from war. Today it is hailed for its success as one of Asia’s fastest-growing economies. How did it make that happen? And, what are the challenges ahead? CGTN’s John Gilmore has this report.
