The Heat: Countdown to the Oscars

The Heat

Celebrities will soon descend on the red carpet for Hollywood’s biggest night, celebrating the best in filmmaking.

“Roma,” already an awards darling this season, is up for ten nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron.  A period film about a frail English queen caught in a love triangle, has proven to be a favorite with critics and moviegoers.  And for the first time, a superhero movie enters the Oscars race.  Black Panther made history with a predominantly black cast.  But for all the drama on-screen, there has been no shortage of controversies behind the scenes.  Comedian Kevin Hart stepped down after a series of homophobic tweets surfaced, leaving the Academy without a host for the first time since 1989.
