American rhythm and blues star R. Kelly is free on bail after pleading “not guilty” to sex abuse charges.

The singer faces accusations from four women that span decades.

CGTN’s Dan Williams reports.

A mass of media greeted a return to court for singer R. Kelly.

Kelly remained in prison over the weekend following his arrest on Friday. Kelly appeared at the brief arraignment hearing. He was wearing a jail-issued orange jumpsuit.

His attorney entered a plea of not guilty to all charges on the singer’s behalf.

“Our position at this point is that Mr. Kelly’s done absolutely nothing wrong. No one has shown us any evidence that he has done anything wrong. He’s in jail. Nobody wants to be in jail. So, but he is strong. And he knows what is there and he knows what kind of fight he is going to be involved in,” said Steve Greenberg R Kelly’s lawyer.

Attorney Michael Avenatti, who said he represents two of Kelly’s alleged victims, revealed he has handed over a second video to prosecutors. He claims it shows R. Kelly engaged in the sexual assault of a minor.

He said he has also been made aware of a third video.

“This reign of abuse and assault by Mr. Kelly is about to come to an abrupt and permanent end. This man deserves to be locked up for the rest of his life,” Avenatti said.

Disturbing details of the allegations against Kelly emerged over the weekend when the prosecution released four documents, one for each accuser, outlining the basis for the charges. The allegations date back as far as 1998 and span more than a decade.

R. Kelly is one the biggest selling recording artists of all time. He was acquitted of child pornography charges back in 2008. Kelly will return to court on March 22.
