Beautiful but deadly lionfish disrupt the Caribbean coast

An uninvited species is disturbing the delicate balance in the waters of the Caribbean. It’s an exotic fish that is threatening local species from the Florida peninsula to the coast of Central America.

Called “lionfish,” they are colorful and mesmerizing to watch as they swim.

But the predatory lionfish are endangering the existence of hundreds of species of native marine life from Panama to Honduras to Cuba.

Correspondent Harris Whitbeck reports on where the lionfish came from and what some fishermen in Costa Rica are doing to bring their population under control.
