When it comes to billionaires, Beijing is the top dog. Even with a slowdown in growth and stock market swings, Beijing was the number one metropolis for those who have $1 billion or more in assets.
Beijing’s more than 100 billionaires beat out New York City, which has 93 of them.
Hong Kong is also in the money with 69 billionaires. Globally, China also has the most in the hundred million dollar club, with over a quarter of the world’s total.
While billionaires are a source of national pride, they can also be a sign of economic inequality.
So, how do non-billionaire Beijingers feel about the super rich in their midst?
