A neighborhood in Mexico City called Tepito honors its Aztec roots

Americas Now

An artist’s movement in Mexico has dedicated itself to reclaiming its Aztec identity. The group consists of painters, writers and actors and their work includes murals and plays.

They hail from Tepito, one of Mexico City’s original neighborhoods and one that has a long history with the artistic community.

Today Tepito is known by outsiders for being a dangerous, no-go zone. But locals are still proud of its culture and heritage.
