Chile’s historic evergreen trees are endangered

A forest of pine trees in the Chilean Andes is under threat.

The trees have been described as “living fossils” and were proclaimed to be part of Chile’s National Heritage in 1976.

The National Trust in the United Kingdom believes commercial forestry is responsible for the demise of the trees.
